O-Town Girls Lose Their Minds for Twilight
By Tanisha GabrielTuesday, June 2, 2009
The twister that is Twilight has swept the world by storm and has landed on O-Town. The most common victims are teenagers like Amanda Thomas, 15, who has read each book three times. Since there are well over 500 pages in each of the four books, I would definitely have to say she probably has them memorized.
"It is not just one straight-up fantasy it is not like the guy gets the girl end of story. They have to go through so much in order to get through what they get to in book four," Amanda explains.
Although the books are what started Twilight mania, the movies have brought them to a level of extreme outrageous craziness. It was reported by TMZ that Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella in the movie, was photographed on the set wearing a $50 Billabong jacket -- and a few days later, the jacket was sold out and was selling on eBay for $300 dollars.
There are fans out there that believe that Twilight is their life.
The story is of Bella, a teenage girl who loves a vampire named Edward Cullen. They fall in love and are constantly in danger trying to make their relationship work.
Fans like Stefanie Smith and Sam Audette, who are best friends and die-hard fans, have each seen the movie 18 times and counting.
Sam tries to verbalize her feelings in words: "I am very connected to Edward just in the since that he feels out of place out of his skin all the time. I constantly felt like that I am a kindred spirit with Edward. And he also likes the same things I like."
She explains further: "Like the way he organizes his room and the music he likes and the books he reads and the things he know, I am like, 'That is so me!'"
I quietly laugh at her response, but the friends stare me down with a serious expression and I stop.
Stefanie interrupts the awkward moment with enthusiasm, admitting that she read all the books in one week. Her eyes open wide as I mention the name Robert Pattinson, the actor who plays Edward.
"If he were to walk by I would have to follow him to actual see if he was real. If he was to walk straight over here, I would look and be like, 'Hi...umm...I am Stefanie," she says.
The new Twilight movie New Moon comes out this year. For a Twilight fan this could seem like a million years away -- what do they do in the mean time? Stefanie and Sam say they re-read the books, look for updates and -- if all else fails -- they read the tabloids.
As evidenced by Stefanie and Sam, two of Edward Cullen's biggest cheerleaders, the Twilight twister has hit O-Town and it doesn't seem to be weakening as the time moves to the next movie Twilight: New Moon. Fans' devotion to the books and the movies seems to be getting stronger and stronger each passing moment.
